Most smart speaker owners have multiple devices, but are happy to leave them behind

An overview of the number of devices smart speaker owners own and whether they would miss the device in the United States.

Multi-device ownership of smart speakers is growing in the United States, according to the latest data from Edison Research and NPR. While 62% of owners had just one device in 2017, this dropped to below one-half (48%) in 2018. The greatest shift was in owning three or more devices, rising from 17% to 30%.

However, less than one-third of owners said they wouldn't go back to life before having their device. Even for those who had owned a device for over two years, only 30% agreed they couldn't go back to not owning their smart speaker.
