Outlines some of the challenges of becoming a leader in an insights organisation and some lessons learned.

Last June, I got the dream job leading a high talent team in an exciting new area in Microsoft. Lucky me! What I did not know then is just how complex and difficult the next year would be. I believe what I learned could be useful to just about anyone in the insights industry right now.

There were many hurdles:

  1. To stakeholders, I was the SME without the expertise;
  2. To my peers and boss, I had to prove that my past successes were not mere happenstance;
  3. To my team, I had to create the vision when the charter was anything...
