Until recently, most Britons had little idea how much energy they were using, what it meant or what it should cost them.
The culprit? Outdated gas and electricity meters that meant our bills had to be estimated, not accurate. In 2014, the nation embarked upon the biggest national infrastructure project of our lifetime to remedy this.
To modernise supply, our antiquated system is upgrading to smart meters: a new generation of meters that will show us all what we're spending to the penny, empower us with knowledge and transform how we buy and use energy.
