Where were we?
Domestic violence and femicide rates increased rapidly in the last few years in Turkey. Moreover, the majority of femicide cases constituted suspicious deaths. In the last 2 years alone, 93 women lost their lives by falling from balconies. These deaths were recorded as suicide cases, and the cases were quickly closed. The law known as the "Istanbul Convention," or as Law No. 6284 on the prevention of violence against women, has become a subject of public debate with thousands of cases overlaying it, becoming a major headline in recent women's protests.
