Video streaming is becoming increasingly fragmented, according to the latest data from Sandvine. Web-based streaming apps now account for the majority of video streaming downstream traffic (23.8%). This category includes smaller and regional platforms like AMC in the US, Canal+ in France and Foxtel in Australia as well as video advertising and video-sharing sites.
Netflix, in contrast, has fallen from first to second. It accounts for 23.1% of the total, down from over one-quarter (26.6%) in 2018. It remains the most popular single video streaming platform in traffic, though.
