Background
In America, race, socioeconomic status, and health have always been intrinsically linked. Black and Hispanic people experience social, economic, and political exclusion that result in poorer health outcomes. In fact, the proportion of people of color in the U.S. living below the federal poverty level is more than double that of whites. And those with lower socioeconomic status often face more barriers to quality healthcare – one of the most prevalent problems in the country.
