India’s first step towards electric mobility began way back in 2001 with the REVA or Revolutionary Electric Vehicle Alternative from the Maini group – a tiny, plasticky, toy-like hatchback sold at a premium and on the promise of total cost of ownership (TCO).
Ahead of its time, it did not take off and was later acquired by Mahindra (as e2go). Nevertheless, it was a recognisable first step towards mass electric mobility.
